Lumberjacks To Meet Sam Houston In First Round

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks will go into this week's State Farm Southland Conference Basketball Tournament as the No. 6 seed. SFA will play No. 3 Sam Houston State in the first round on Wednesday. The contest is set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
The Lumberjacks go into tournament play with an 18-10 overall record and a 9-7 mark in Southland play. SFA finished in a three-team tie for fifth place with Southeastern Louisiana and UTSA. The `Jacks earned the fifth seed by virtue of league tiebreaker policy.
The winner of Wednesday's game between SFA and Sam Houston will advance to a semifinal matchup against the winner of the tournament's first game, featuring No. 2 Northwestern State and No. 7 UTSA. That game will tip at noon.
In the other half of the bracket, No. 1 McNeese State will meet No. 8 Nicholls at 6 p.m. The winner will advance and take on the victor between No. 4 Texas State and No. 5 Southeastern Louisiana. That game is set for an 8:30 p.m. start.
All games will be played at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. The semifinal contests will be aired live on SLC-TV Thursday night with the winners advancing to the championship game on Saturday. That contest is set for a 3 p.m. start and will be televised on ESPN2.
