
SFA Throwers Post Big Marks at Rice

Senior thrower Kaitlyn Andrews set a school record in the women's shot put to lead the Stephen F. Austin men's and women's program to a strong final day of competition at the Victor Lopez Classic. Andrews recorded a throw of 51-8.50 to set the new school standard and finished second overall.
Andrews had a huge afternoon in the throws events. After setting a school record in the women's shot put, she returned to the throwing circle, where she posted a top-10 finish in the discus. She recorded a throw of 137-1 to finish 10th overall.
Less than 24 hours after recording a top-five finish in the weight throw, junior Jon Arthur recorded an individual title in the shot put. He recorded a throw of 57-5.50 to win the event. Freshman Clint Harris and junior Kyle Bishop notched top-10 marks in the discus. Harris was third overall with a throw of 171-6, while Bishop was eighth (156-3).
The Ladyjacks were also strong in the jumping events Saturday. SFA placed three in the top 10 of the long jump. Crystal Walker led all SFA jumpers with her fifth-place finish (20-0.25). Freshman Kristen Knox was eighth after recording a jump of 19-1.25, while Alicia Jackson finished tied for 10th overall (18-7.75).
Walker notched another top-five finish in the women's triple jump. She finished second overall with a mark of 40-9.75, while Kelli Hermes was fifth (40-2.00). In similar fashion to Walker, senior Adam Wolfe just missed an individual title in the javelin. Wolfe recorded a throw of 188-5 to finish second overall. Junior Mary Dickerson followed with a runner-up finish in the women's 400-meter dash. She was second overall crossing the line with a time of 54.99. Dickerson edged out Amahra Edwards who was fifth (56.00).
Senior Camelia Sams clocked a time of 12.38 in the women's 100-meter dash to finish third. The Lumberjacks were just as strong in the men's 100 placing three in the top10. Freshman Edric Williams was fifth (11.15) in the event, while Sherman Rosborough was eighth - 11.20. Rosborough edged out freshman Robert Clayton by one-hundredth of a second.
Other SFA athletes who notched top-five performances were Jonus Rodriguez in the 800 meters, and the SFA sprint relay squads. Rodriguez recorded a time of 1:55.03 to finish fourth overall. The Lumberjacks' 4x100-meter relay team recorded a time of 40.88 to finish second overall. The Ladyjacks' 400-meter relay team followed suit by clocking a time of 46.91 to finish fourth overall.
SFA will be back in action Saturday when they return home to host the SFA Quad and Alumni meet. The meet will take place at Fletcher Garner Track and will feature some of the past SFA greats throughout the day.
