NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team continued their dominating ways as they took on Southeastern Louisiana Saturday afternoon at the Schlief Tennis Complex and walked away with a 7-0 victory. The Ladyjacks are now 10-1 on the season, and 2-1 in Southland Conference play.
Doubles action, once again, was successful for the Ladyjacks when the No.1 doubles team of Alina Shazhko and Paola Montuenga won a quick match 8-2. Doubles play came to an end when Meagan Ocanas and Alice Pacaut recorded a victory in a tight match, 8-7 (10-4).
"Southeastern recently had a run of three-straight undefeated seasons in the Southland, and is a team SFA hasn't defeated in ten years, so to beat them like this is a really good win for us," head coach Patrick Sullivan said. "Lamar really gave us a lesson in intensity last week and the team took it to heart."
Heading into singles play with a 1-0 lead, the Ladyjacks powered their way to six-straight singles wins. Shazhko won her first set easily at No. 1 singles, but was forced to a third after dropping a 6-3 decision in the second set. Shazhko showed a lot of poise in the final set recording a 6-4 victory in the third set.
Montunega lost her first set 6-1 at No. 2 singles, but fired back to win 6-2, 6-3, to gain another point for SFA. Coming back from an injury, No. 4 Andreea Enica won in straight sets, followed by Pacaut at No. 5, and Ocanas at No. 6.
"We look forward to tomorrow's match against Nicholls. They are a very similar team, and we will need to bring our best effort against them," Sullivan said.
The Ladyjacks return action Sunday to host Nicholls. The match against the Colonels is slated to begin at 11 a.m. from the Schlief Tennis Complex.
