Lumberjacks Hold Off Islanders

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Stephen F. Austin got a career-high 26 points from senior Jordan Glynn Sunday, including a pair of free throws with 31 seconds left to all but put away a 75-68 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the American Bank Center.
The win is SFA's third straight and moves the Lumberjacks (18-8) to 9-5 in Southland Conference play, keeping their league championship hopes alive. The Lumberjacks remain tied with Northwestern State for third in the league and just a game back of conference leaders Texas State and McNeese State with two games to play.
SFA led by double digits for most of the second half, but the Islanders went 11-of-16 at the foul stripe after the break to close the gap. Garland Judkins made it a nine-point game with a free throw at the 1:24 mark. He missed on the second attempt but Demond Watt grabbed the rebound and put back in to trim the lead to seven (71-64).
SFA then turned the ball over in the backcourt, but the Lumberjacks regained possession when Jereal Scott stepped in front of a drive by Terence Jones with 1:05 to play. The `Jacks burned 33 seconds off the shot clock before Glynn was fouled and sank both free throws to cap off his career effort and ice the game.
Glynn was 9-for-12 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 at the line, leading an 18-for-21 effort from the `Jacks. He also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Scott was 7-for-9 from the floor and 5-of-5 at the stripe to finish with 19 points. That marks just the third time in nine games this season for SFA to win with less than three players in double figures.
Jones connected on 3-of-6 3-pointers to lead the Islanders with 15 points. A&M-Corpus was 6-for-14 on threes as a team. Justin Reynolds added 14 points and Watt finished with 13.
The Lumberjacks outscored A&M-Corpus, 19-9, in second-chance points, and, led by Scott and Glynn, finished with a 34-22 edge in the paint, breaking a stretch that saw them get outscored down low in three consecutive contests.
SFA got points on its first five possessions to take an early 10-2 lead. The Lumberjack shooting cooled as the half progressed, but they got 16 first-half points from Glynn and shot 46 percent for the half.
A&M-Corpus hit just 35 percent in the opening period and went the final 4:25 without a field goal, as SFA took a 31-22 lead to the locker room.
Eddie Williams finished with nine points and a career-high eight assists for SFA. Darius Gardner and Antonio Bostic added six points apiece.
The Lumberjacks will play their final home game of the year Wednesday against Sam Houston State. The four SFA seniors will be honored before the contest, which is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The `Jacks took a 63-49 win over Sam Houston in Huntsville in January.
