Ladyjacks Pick Up Three Wins At Holiday Classic

BESSEMER, Ala. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack bowling team opened the Holiday Collegiate Classic with three straight wins Friday and finished at 3-2 for the day. SFA picked up wins over Alabama State, Vanderbilt and Southern before dropping matches to Sam Houston State and Nebraska.
Vanderbilt is the No. 5 team in the latest NTCA poll, while Nebraska is ranked fourth and Sam Houston is ranked 10th. Friday's action consisted of four-game baker matches, decided by total pinfall.
The No. 14 Ladyjacks began the day with a 719-645 win over Alabama State. SFA rolled a 202 to open the match and closed with a 195 to cruise to the win.
In the second match, SFA put up two strong games in the middle to knock off No. 5 Vanderbilt, 774-747. The Ladyjacks rolled a 200 in Game 2 and a 222 in the third game to secure the win.
Match 3 saw a dominant 730-605 verdict against Southern. SFA's high score was a 162 in Game 2.
Sam Houston scored a close 718-698 victory in the fourth match, and No. 4 Nebraska put a damper on the Ladyjacks' day with a 782-601 decision in Friday's finale.
Saturday, SFA will compete in five standard-format team matches with a seeded finals round scheduled for Sunday.
