
SFA Wins Two On First Day At Music City Classic

SMYRNA, Tenn. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack bowling team is 13th of 20 teams heading into Day 2 at the Music City Classic. SFA went 2-4 Friday in six quad baker matches, picking up wins against St. Francis and Jackson State.
The Ladyjacks opened the day by dropping three straight matches against Central Missouri, Adelphi and Kutztown, all three of which are ranked among the top 12 in the most recent national polls. SFA came into the weekend ranked No. 13. The Ladyjacks rallied to win two of their last three matches, wrapping victories over St. Francis and Jackson State around a narrow loss to Sacred Heart.
SFA dropped a 787-680 decision to third-ranked Central Missouri in the opener. The Ladyjacks averaged 170 for the match, breaking 200 only once.
In the next match, No. 12 Adelphi posted an 823-690 verdict against the Ladyjacks.The third opponent of the day, No. 7 Kutztown, took an 826-676 win over SFA. The 150-pin margin was the Ladyjacks' worst of the day, as was their 169-pin average.
But SFA rallied to average 191.5 pins in a 766-664 win over No. 15 St. Francis. The match included a 227 in the first game that was the Ladyjacks' best score of the day to that point.
SFA lost some momentum, though, with a 60-pin loss to No. 10 Sacred Heart in the next match. But the Ladyjacks finished on a high note with a dominant 801-622 win over Jackson State in the last match of the day. SFA averaged just over 200 for the match, highlighted by a score of 253 in Game 2.
Saturday's action will consist of six standard-format matches.
