NACOGDOCHES, Texas - One of the school's all-time top punters, Drew Nelson closed out his SFA career Monday with another honor. Nelson has been named National Punter of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.
A two-time second-team All-Southland Conference selection, Nelson saved one of his best performances for the final game of his career. He was called on to punt only twice against Northwestern State but took full advantage of the opportunity averaging 57 yards per punt, including a 67-yard blast. The punt was the 11th-longest attempt in school history.
A senior from Livingston, Texas, Nelson is also a standout in the classroom earning several conference and national academic honors. Nelson is once again a candidate for all-conference on the field.
