NACOGDOCHES, Texas - In wake of the tragic news of the plane crash that took the lives of Oklahoma State women's basketball head coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will do their part to help begin the healing process.
SFA head coach Brandon Schneider and his coaching staff will wear orange for this Saturday's home game against Wiley College in remembrance of both Budke and Serna. Schneider will be wearing an Oklahoma State polo that was given to him two weeks ago while visiting the campus.
The ties between Schneider and his staff and the Oklahoma State coaching staff runs deep. He is close friends with Bill Annan (OSU Director of Player Development), Jim Littell (Associate Head Coach), Joey Biggs (Assistant AD) and personally knew Coach Budke and Coach Serna since 1996.
"Our staff was extremely saddened to hear of the plane crash that caused the deaths of Coach Budke, Miranda and two others," Schneider said Friday morning. "We have very close friends who are associated with both OSU women's basketball and the OSU athletics department. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this tragedy, especially the Cowgirl players, their coaches, and the family members of the victims."
Budke and Serna were on a recruiting trip to Arkansas when their plane crashed in Perry County, also killing two other individuals including the pilot. There were no survivors.
Prior to Saturday's game there will also be a moment of silence to honor those that lost their lives in the tragedy.
Saturday's game between SFA and Wiley College will tip-off at 6 p.m. at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
