NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Freshmen Taylor Gross and Jill Ivy combined for 27 kills, but UT-Arlington seniors Tara Frantz and Amanda Aguilera combined for 37 kills of their own as the Mavs avenged a sweep to SFA two weeks ago with a 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22) win on Saturday afternoon at Texas Hall.
SFA (12-15, 5-7 SLC) has now dropped three matches in a row, despite hitting .229 for the match, the second-highest single-match attack percentage for the Ladyjacks since Sept. 3. The Ladyjacks outblocked the Mavs (10-16, 6-6 SLC) 10-7 with seven of those rejections coming from Sabrina Burns, who now stands as one of the top blockers in the league with a 1.05 per-set average after Saturday.
Madison Hanlan had 15 digs, while Katzy Randall added 14 of her own on the defensive side of things. Ivy had a hand in five blocks, and MC Bottles had eight kills with just one error on 20 swings on the night.
SFA hit .290 in the first set to jump out to a 1-0 lead, but couldn't hold back UTA in any of the final three sets as the Mavs hit .432, .231 and .308 in the final three frames while SFA did not manage to hit higher than .209 in any of those frames.
The Ladyjacks come back to Shelton Gym next week for a pair of matches when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and league-leading UTSA on Thursday and Saturday.
