SPARTANSBURG, S.C. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team has received its second top-10 ranking in as many days. Less than 24 hours after receiving an eighth-place nod from the Sports Network, the Lumberjacks finished the 2010 campaign ranked 10th according to the FCS Coaches Top 25 Poll.
The Lumberjacks capped their second-straight Southland Conference title run with a 9-3 record and a return trip to the NCAA FCS Playoffs. It was the first time in school history that a Lumberjack football team has recorded back-to-back conference titles.
Following the season, quarterback Jeremy Moses continued the school's history-making pace when he was named the winner of the 2010 Walter Payton Award, the FCS level's version of the Heisman Trophy. Moses will leave SFA as the school and conference all-time leading passer, and the NCAA FCS' all-time leader in completions. He also became the first school or conference player to win the Walter Payton Award.
