SFA vs. the CARDINALS: Saturday's game against the Cardinals will mark the first meeting on the gridiron since the 1989 season. SFA trails the all-time series, 9-17-2 (.357), but won two straight and three of the last four before the Cardinals ended the program following the 1989 season. SFA is 2-2 (.500) in Nacogdoches against Lamar. WIN STREAK: The Lumberjacks will place their win streak on the line Saturday against Lamar. SFA has now won seven consecutive games at Homer Bryce Stadium dating back to the 2009 home opener. It is the team's longest home streak since it won seven games between the 2001 and 2002 campaigns. SFA vs. the TOP 25: With their two-point victory over Northern Iowa the Lumberjacks have now won three of their last four games against NCAA FCS teams ranked in the top 25. The lone setback during that stretch was a second-round loss to No. 1 overall seed Montana in the second round of the playoffs. MILESTONES: Senior Jeremy Moses reached a career milestone in the first half against the Panthers. Moses had 231 yards passing in the first half which put him over the 10,000-yard mark for his career. Moses currently has 10,243 career yards, becoming only the second player in Southland Conference history to reach 10,000 yards. With his fifth completion he also became the first quarterback in conference history to complete 900 passes. CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Senior Jeremy Moses continues to climb the ladder of the Southland Conference record books. The conference's all-time leader in completions, Moses is currently second all-time in touchdown passes (92), second in passing yards (10,243) and third in yards of total offense (9,993). He needs only nine more TD passes, 316 yards passing, and 1,001 yards of total offense to set new league records in each of those categories. DIFFERENCE MAKER: Northern Iowa entered last Saturday's game as the nation's top team in sacks, but it was the Lumberjack defense that got after the Panthers' quarterback. SFA dropped the UNI quarterbacks five times, including Jabara Williams' first quarter sack in the end zone which turned out to be the difference in the game. THE COACHES: J.C. Harper became the 18th head coach of the SFA Lumberjack football team in December 2006, following two seasons as the team's defensive coordinator. Harper was named the 2009 SLC Coach of the Year after guiding SFA to it's first conference crown in 10 years. The title came only two years following an 0-11 season. Harper is 16-23 (.410) in three seasons as a head coach. Ray Woodard is 2-1 (.667) in his first season with the Cardinals' program. Woodard was handed the responsibility of reviving the program following a 20-year hiatus. |
