FRISCO, Texas - Continuing a stretch of three straight defensive honors for Stephen F. Austin, Jordyn Young was named Tuesday the Southland Conference Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Young's honor follows two straight player of the week selections for back line teammate Jordan King.
Young played 31 minutes in SFA's 7-0 win over Texas Southern on Sunday. All her time was logged in the first half, when the Ladyjacks held Texas Southern without a shot attempt. The Tigers finished with just three shots for the game, only one of which was on goal.
Young also got in on the action at the other end of the field. She scored her first career goal in the 25th minute, when she headed home a corner kick to give SFA a 5-0 lead. Young was one of four Ladyjacks to score their first goals of the season in the contest.
Young's honor marks the first time since 2005 for the Ladyjacks to pick up three consecutive Southland Player of the Week awards.
SFA will be back in action Sunday when the Ladyjacks travel to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
