GAME INFORMATION
This Week: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will try to keep its home record spotless this weekend with a pair of games at the SFA Soccer Complex. The Ladyjacks take on UTEP Friday night, then host Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday afternoon. SFA comes into the weekend with a 2-2-0 record, having won twice at home and lost twice on the road. UTEP is 2-1-0 on the season, while the Ragin' Cajuns bring a 3-1-0 mark to the weekend.
Last Week: SFA picked up its first win ever against an SEC opponent with a 2-1 home verdict over Arkansas on Friday. After a scoreless first half, Kylie Louw scored twice in the second period to lead the Ladyjacks to the win. Louw's first goal came in the 51st minute with Laura Sadler getting credit on the assist. After Arkansas tied the score in the 59th minute, Louw registered the game-winner at the 72:07 mark. Janae Lee picked up the assist. On Sunday, Oklahoma seized the early lead with a goal in the 32nd minute. Kim Kimmel tied the score in the first 45 seconds of the second half with an unassisted chip shot over the Sooner goalkeeper. Oklahoma would retake the lead in the 63rd minute and hold on for the win. SFA 'keeper Courtney Bauder recorded a season-high six saves.
Series Histories: SFA is 1-3-0 all-time against UTEP. The lone Ladyjack win in the series was a 3-2 verdict at home in 2003. SFA dropped a 4-1 decision against the Miners in El Paso last season. The Ladyjacks defeated Louisiana-Lafayette, 3-1, in the 2009 season opener, the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Miners: Friday's contest will mark UTEP's first on the road this season. The Miners opened the year with a 1-0 win over Northern Arizona. Last weekend, they dropped a 2-1 decision to Fresno State before rallying with a 3-1 win over Utah Valley on Sunday. Katie Dorman's two goals and five points lead UTEP. Goalkeeper Chandra Morden brings an .850 save percentage to the weekend.
The Cajuns: Louisiana-Lafayette comes into the week with a 3-1 record. The Cajuns opened the season with consecutive shutouts against McNeese State and Mississippi Valley. Last weekend, Louisiana-Lafayette lost a 2-0 decision to Houston, then scored a 2-1 win over Lamar. Kelli Jestes' two goals lead the team. Sunday's game at SFA will mark the Cajuns' fourth Southland Conference opponent of the young season, as they take on Northwestern State Friday. In all, Louisiana-Lafayette will play six Southland teams this season.
Coverage: A live stream of both of this weekend's games will be available online via SFA All-Access. Live stats for both contests will be provided via GameTracker.
NEWS AND NOTES
SEC-YA: With its 2-1 win over Arkansas, SFA bid farewell to a frustrating history against programs from the Southeastern Conference. In five previous meetings with SEC schools, the Ladyjacks were 0-5-0 with a goal against LSU in 2004 standing as their lone scoring strike.
MULTIPLE GOALS: Sophomore Kylie Louw scored both of SFA's goals against Arkansas. This marked the first multi-goal game of her career and her second game-winning goal in a Ladyjack uniform.
NO SHOT? : SFA defeated Arkansas despite a 14-7 advantage in shots for the Razorbacks. The Ladyjacks went 1-4-1 last season in games when they took fewer shots than their opponents.
ROAD RASH: SFA is a perfect 2-0-0 at home but is still looking for its first road win of the season with losses at Rice and Oklahoma on the ledger. Including neutral-site games, the Ladyjacks went 6-5-2 away from Nacogdoches last season.
GRAND OPENING: SFA opened the 2010 season with a 2-1 win over Louisiana Tech. That marked the fourth time in five seasons for the Ladyjacks to win their season opener and improved the team to 4-2-1 all-time when beginning the season at home.
COMEBACK: Louisiana Tech went ahead, 1-0, in the early minutes of the season opener, but SFA was able to tie the score later in the half and go on to take a 2-1 win. The Ladyjacks did not register a come-from-behind win in 2009.
OUT TO A GOOD START: The 2-1 win over Louisiana Tech marked a first in SFA program history. With the verdict, Tony Amato became the only first-year Ladyjack head coach to win in his SFA debut. Each of the six coaches before Amato were defeated in their first contests. The best first-year record in program history is the 14-4-0 mark Jaime Frias' squad put up in 2005. SFA won the Southland championship that season with a 7-0-0 record.
DIAL 9 FOR ASSISTANCE: Sophomore Kylie Louw (jersey number 9) is among the SFA career leaders in assists after just one season on campus. She led the team with nine last season and has put up one assist in 2010. With another, Louw will move into a tie for the No. 5 spot on the program's career list.
STARTS STREAK: Senior defender Kelli Barnes has started every game for the last two-plus seasons. Barnes carries a run of 42 consecutive starts, dating to the opener of the 2008 season.
WORKING OVERTIME: In addition to her impressive streak of consecutive starts, Kelli Barnes has led the team in minutes played each of the last two seasons. She has played at least 90 minutes on 37 occasions in the last two-plus seasons and has yet to take a substitution in 2010.
FRESH FACES: With eight freshmen and four transfers, SFA suits up 12 first-year players in 2010. The Ladyjacks began the year with 18 first-year players on the roster last season.
FIRST-TIMERS: Starting with its game at Houston Baptist on Sept. 12, SFA will play three straight contests against first-time opponents. The Ladyjacks will meet Houston Baptist, Texas Southern and Arkansas-Pine Bluff in succession.
NINE WINS: SFA finished the 2009 season with a 10-8-2 overall record. This marks the seventh consecutive season for the Ladyjacks to pick up at least nine victories and is the program's seventh straight winning season. The last time an SFA squad failed to reach the nine-win plateau was 2002, also the last time the Ladyjacks posted a losing season (7-9-4).
TITLE TOWN: The SFA women's soccer program has brought an unprecedented five Southland Conference regular-season championships back to Nacogdoches. That total is nearly half of the 13 possible regular-season titles in SLC Soccer history.
BUILDING MOMENTUM: Since its beginnings in 1995, the Ladyjack soccer program has compiled an overall record of 135-125-27. However, the Ladyjacks have really turned the corner in the last seven years. Since the 2002 season, SFA is 90-53-16 overall. In that same stretch, the Ladyjacks have gone 53-14-11 in Southland Conference play with three regular-season championships and a pair of tournament titles to their credit.
SAFE AT HOME: SFA holds an all-time record of 77-35-12 in home games, but that mark is even better at the current venue. Since moving from Homer Bryce Stadium to the SFA Soccer Complex for the 2003 season, the Ladyjacks are 46-8-5 in home contests. Against Southland Conference foes, SFA is a very tough 27-4-3 at the Soccer Complex.
