
Rice Takes Down SFA In Three

HOUSTON, Texas - Jordan Meredith and Ashleigh McCord combined for 27 kills for Rice as the Owls took down SFA 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-14) in the final match of the Rice Invitational on Saturday at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Theo Owls (5-7) earned the tournament title after hitting .414 in the match, with SFA (7-8) only managing a .019 percentage of its own. Kelsey Owens led the offense with seven kills and MC Bottles had five, but SFA never hit higher than .147 in any set while the Owls never hit lower than .389 in any set.
Bottles and Madison Hanlan were named to the all-tournament team at the end of the match, with Hanlan closing out the tournament with a match-high 16 digs.
The Owls owned the net, outblocking SFA 4-0 after the Ladyjacks had the edge at the net at each of its first two matches of the tournament.
SFA will open up league play with two road matches this weekend at both Northwestern State and Central Arkansas, beginning Thursday in Natchitoches.
