FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Jordan King and Courtney Bauder were each named Southland Conference Player of the Week Tuesday, according to an announcement by league officials. This marks the first time since 2007 for two Ladyjacks to take the league honor in the same week.
King was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. She scored a goal in each of SFA's wins last week, notching the game-winner against Houston, then opening the Ladyjacks' scoring against Houston Baptist. She also contributed defensively to SFA's first shutout of the season -- a 1-0 blanking of Houston -- and helped limit Houston Baptist to just five shots -- a season-low for SFA opponents.
King is the first Ladyjack to earn consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honors since Jessica Cotton won two straight in October of 2007. Cotton's second honor also marked the last time SFA had two players honored on the same week, as Crystin Pactor took goalkeeper accolades for that week.
Bauder earned the Goalkeeper of the Week tag on Tuesday, repeating Cotton and Pactor's double-dip from three seasons ago. Bauder stopped all but one of the 11 shots on goal she faced last week and put up a season-best eight saves against Houston to post her first shutout of the year.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action Sunday, when they host Texas Southern in a 1 p.m. contest.
