
SFA Drops Two At Drake Tournament

DES MOINES, Iowa - After winning its first two matches at the Drake Bulldog Challenge, the Ladyjack volleyball team dropped two matches on the second day to Idaho State and Drake to earn a split for the weekend.
SFA (4-7) could not hold onto an early 1-0 lead, falling 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19) to the Bengals in the first match of the day despite getting at least 11 kills from three separate players. MC Bottles put up a team-high 12, but Allison Gideon and Melissa Miksch were right behind her with 11 apiece.
Madison Hanlan had 13 digs to reach double figures for the 10th straight match, while Gideon added 30 assists to earn a double-double. SFA hit over .230 in each of their first two sets, but had as many errors as kills in the final two sets while Idaho State hit .219 in those sets behind a combined 32 kills in the match from Jaclyn Hone and Haylee Brock-Thompson.
Against undefeated Drake, SFA got 10 kills from Kelsey Owens and 10 kills from Melissa Miksch but the Bulldogs hit .295 for the match in rolling to the 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23) win. Gideon added 26 more assists, but Drake hit .538 in the first set and got a match-high 12 kills from Angela Bys in moving to 13-0 on the season.
Junior Melissa Miksch was named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the event.
SFA travels home and faces North Texas on Wednesday at Johnson Coliseum.
