SFA in HOME OPENERS: The Lumberjacks are 26-17-2 (.600) in home openers dating back to the 1965 season. SFA has won four of its last six home openers, including two consecutive wins. SFA is 2-1 (.667) in home openers under head coach J.C. Harper. SFA vs. the GREAT DANES: Saturday's meeting will be the first between the two schools on the gridiron. In fact, it will be the first time in program history that SFA has ever faced a school from the Northeast Conference. SLC RECORD BREAKER: Senior quarterback Jeremy Moses completed 19 passes at Texas A&M, but it was his ninth completion of the game that was a milestone. Moses' 17-yard completion to Cordell Roberson in the second quarter made him the Southland Conference's all-time leader in completions (857), surpassing Central Arkansas' Nathan Brown. Moses currently has 867 career completions. CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Senior Jeremy Moses is on pace to break several other SLC records this season. His 171 passing yards at Texas A&M moved him into second all-time (9,574) surpassing Texas State's Bradley George. Moses is currently second all-time in SLC history with 88 touchdown passes and fifth all-time with 9,333 yards of total offense. ENDING A DROUGHT: When quarterback Jeremy Moses hit sophomore Cordell Roberson for a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter at Texas A&M, it ended a scoring drought for the Lumberjacks. Prior to that touchdown SFA hadn't scored a point since the 1:48 mark of the third quarter in the opening round of the FCS Playoffs against Eastern Washington last season. The drought covered more than six quarters (102 minutes, 34 seconds). THE COACHES: J.C. Harper became the 18th head coach of the SFA Lumberjack football team in December 2006, following two seasons as the team's defensive coordinator. Harper was named the 2009 SLC Coach of the Year after guiding SFA to it's first conference crown in 10 years. The title came only two years following an 0-11 season. Harper is 14-23 (.378) in three seasons as a head coach. Bob Ford is the architect of the Albany football program, serving as the school's lone head coach since the university reinstated the program following a 46-year absence. Ford was named the program's head coach on April 27, 1970, and since that time he has compiled a 233-147 (.613) all-time record. Ford's troops are 1-0 in 2010. 'JACKS TO HONOR FALLEN SUPPORTER: SFA Athletics will be honoring the family of longtime supporter, and civic leader, Gary Justice at halftime of Saturday's game. Gary passed away in an automobile accident in May. Joining SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill on the field will be Gary's wife, Dena, son Brad and daughter Lauren. |
