NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer program announced Wednesday its schedule for the 2010 season. The slate features nine home games, including dates against foes from the SEC, Western Athletic Conference and Conference USA.
SFA will open its first season under new head coach Tony Amato on Aug. 20 with a home game against Louisiana Tech. The Ladyjacks follow that game by traveling to Houston to take on Rice two days later, then come back home to entertain Arkansas on Aug. 27. The meeting with the Razorbacks will be the fourth for SFA all-time but marks Arkansas' first trip to Nacogdoches.
After the Arkansas game, SFA will travel north to meet Oklahoma in a reunion of sorts. Sooner head coach Nicole Nelson ran the Ladyjack program from 2002 to 2004. Additionally, the two most recent additions to her staff are former SFA head coach George Van Linder and former Ladyjack assistant Trae Manny.
Following that trip, the Ladyjacks will host UTEP and Louisiana-Lafayette in back-to-back games on Sept. 3 and Sept. 5. SFA will take on Houston and Houston Baptist in consecutive road games the following weekend before coming home to face Texas Southern on Sept. 19 in the final home non-conference game of the year.
After a road contest against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Ladyjacks will open Southland Conference play with two straight away games, starting Oct. 1 at Northwestern State. The home conference opener pits SFA against Lamar on Oct. 8. The regular-season finale is scheduled for Oct. 31 against UTSA with the Southland Conference Tournament set for the following week in Hammond, La., at Southeastern Louisiana.
