
SFA Track and Field Competes at UNT Classic

DENTON, Texas - DENTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team's recorded a strong outing with nine individual titles Saturday at the UNT Classic in Denton, Texas.
Sophomore Danielle Burchett just missed an individual title clocking a time of 2:16.99 to finish second in the women's 800 meters. Senior Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye posted a similar finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Egboba-Waye clocked a time of 13.95 to finish second in the event.
Another Ladyjack who just missed an individual title Saturday was sophomore Carrie Hahn in the high jump. Hahn cleared height of 1.70 meters to tie the championship, but Hahn finished second after the tie breaker.
Freshman Kelli Hermes broke through for the team's first individual title of the day when she recorded a mark of 11.99 meters to win the women's triple jump. Senior Matt Langdon followed suit in the men's hammer throw. Langdon recorded a throw of 56.06 meters to win the event, led a sweep of the top four spots in the event by SFA. Sophomore Kyle Bishop finished second (52.79 meters), followed by classmate Jon Arthur (52.69 meters) and Marcus Mitchell (48.91 meters). Bishop also recorded a top-five finish in the shot put. He was third overall with a mark of 16.99 meters.
Adam Wolfe led a trio of `Jacks in the men's javelin throw. Wolfe recorded a throw of 58.93 meters to finish third overall. Cameron Agnew was fourth with a throw of 51.81 meters, while Chris Jones was fifth (51.69 meters).
Senior Frednisha Marshall added to SFA's individual title haul with her throw of 14.86 meters to win the shop put. She returned to the throwing circle in the hammer throw where she just missed a second title. Marshall recorded a throw of 53.02 meters to place second overall. Brooke Carpenter added an individual title in the women's javelin throw. Carpenter recorded a throw of 38.98 meters on her first attempt to win the event.
Sophomore Nick McCloud was third in the men's 200-meter dash with his time of 21.42. McCloud returned to the track in the men's 110-meter hurdles where he won the event with a time of 13.94 seconds. McCloud was joined in the top five by senior Aaron Harlan who finished fifth overall (14.82). Travis Beavers added a top-five finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.97.
Sophomore Lauren Watts posted a top-five finish in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Watts crossed the finish line with a time of 1:04.77 to finish fifth overall in the event. Watts just beat out teammate Dezera Dunlap who finished sixth (1:05.28) in the event. Sophomores Sarah Sloan and Macy Wade each cleared a height of 3.30 meters to finish tied for fifth overall. Sophomore Makayla Elliott posted a fifth-place finish in the women's discus with her throw of 47.60 meters.
The Ladyjacks placed two athletes in the top five of the women's long jump. Camelia Sams recorded a jump of 5.85 meters to finish fourth overall, just beating out junior Ebbonye Johnson (5.82m).
Freshman Marcus Rosendall was one of two Lumberjacks to finish in the top five of the men's high jump. Rosendall recorded a mark of 1.91 meters to finish third, while Andrew Plentl was fifth (1.91 meters). Plentl also posted a fifth-place finish in the long jump (6.93 meters). Senior Josh Cruse finished third in the event 7.12 meters. Cruse added an individual in the triple jump (15.03 meters).
The Ladyjacks' team of Keila Crawford, Arteria Sterns, Brittany Shorter and Egboba-Waye clocked a time of 46.72 to finish second in the women's 400-meter relay. Shorter returned to the track to join Amahra Edwards, Watts and Mary Dickerson to win the 1600-meter relay (3:48.54). The `Jacks were just as tough in 400-meter relay. Sherman Rosborough, McCloud, JJ Johnson and Ty Thomas posted a time of 41.57 to win the event. The SFA men also won the 1,600-meter relay when Chris Moody, Travis Beavers, Donavon Sammons and Joe Barb Clocked a time of 3:13.23 for the title.
