FRISCO, Texas - Senior Whitney Cormier and sophomore Tammara Marion have been named 2010 All-Southland Conference announced league officials Monday morning. It marks the second consecutive season that Cormier has received first-team honors, while Marion is making her first appearance on the all-conference team.
Cormier wrapped up her senior season by finishing among the league's leading scorers (14.5 pg). The 24th player in program history to score 1,000 career points, Cormier also finished the season among the league's top 10 in steals and field goal percentage. On two separate occasions this season, Cormier has earned conference player of the week honors.
Marion is a newcomer to the all-conference teams, but it should come as no surprise. Marion finished second on the team averaging 11.6 points per game this season, and became the league's deadliest weapon from beyond the three-point arc. Marion connected on a league-best .399 of her three-point attempts, and enters the 2010 Southland Conference Championship tournament with 55 threes. Marion's 55 triples currently stand as the third-best single-season mark in school history.
Marion kept the Ladyjacks' hopes of another Southland Conference title alive Wednesday evening when she buried seven threes for a career-high 25 points to help SFA beat Central Arkansas. Marion's final three of the game came with no time on the clock to hand SFA the victory. The seven three-pointer also tied an SFA single-game record.
The standouts have been key in helping SFA rally for its 15th Southland Conference regular-season title in program history. After being caught in a logjam in the middle of the conference standings halfway through the season, the Ladyjacks rallied to win their final seven games, and earn a share of the 2010 conference title.
The Ladyjacks enter the 2010 State Farm SLC Championship Tournament as the No. 2 seed. SFA will face No. 7 seed Northwestern State Tuesday at noon in the Merrell Center, in Katy, Texas.
