NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin soccer signee Lara Balcer wrapped up her high school career last week with a state title. The defensive midfielder helped her Catalina Foothills High School team to the Arizona girls Class 4A, Division I championship with a 1-0 decision over Prescott in last Friday's title game.
The championship is the fifth for Catalina Foothills, giving the Falcons more state titles than any other program in Southern Arizona history, according to a story that appeared in the Arizona Daily Star.
Balcer was a key piece of one of the best defensive units in the state. Catalina Foothills allowed only seven goals all season and didn't surrender a scoring strike in the four-game state tournament, during which the Falcons outscored the opposition, 15-0.
Catalina Foothills finished the season with a 25-1-0 record and is currently ranked No. 19 by ESPN Rise.
Balcer is one of 12 players in the Ladyjacks' 2010 class.
