NO. 3 LUMBERJACKS OPEN PLAYOFFS AGAINST DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS: The winners of three straight, and nine of their last 10, the Southland Conference Champion Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (9-2) will host Villanova in the second round of the 2010 NCAA FCS playoffs. The defending National Champion Wildcats (7-4) are an at-large team from the Colonial Athletics Association. Villanova dropped two of its last three games, but rallied to knock off top-ranked Delaware in their regular-season finale. Saturday's game is slated to kick off at 2:37 p.m. Saturday from Homer Bryce Stadium, and will be televised on ESPN3/ESPN GamePlan.

SFA vs. THE WILDCATS: The playoff game between Villanova and SFA will mark the first time in program history the two schools have met on the football field.

SFA vs. THE BRACKET: On the other side of the bracket overall top-seed Appalachian State (9-2) will face Western Illinois (8-4). If SFA gets past Villanova, it would face the winner of the Western Illinois/Appalachian State game. The 'Jacks are 3-2 (.600) all-time against the team's on their side of the bracket.  SFA is 2-2 (.500) against Western Illinois, and 1-0 versus Appalachian State.

SFA vs. THE FIELD: SFA 17-17 (.500) all-time against the other 19 teams in the field of 20. The Lumberjacks defeated Missouri Valley Champion Northern Iowa earlier this year.

LAST TIME HERE: The Lumberjacks advanced to the playoffs last season going 1-1. SFA defeated No. 13 Eastern Washington at home in the opening round, before being knocked out of the playoffs at Montana.

IN SEARCH OF #10: SFA is looking for victory No. 10. If the 'Jacks can advance to the quarterfinals it would be the fifth time in program history it has recorded double-figure wins.

HISTORICAL MOMENT: The 'Jacks' victory over Northwestern State marked the first time in program history that SFA has recorded conference titles in back-to-back seasons.

SFA ALL-TIME IN THE PLAYOFFS: The 'Jacks are heading to playoffs in consecutive years for the first time since the 1988 and 1989 seasons. SFA is 7-5 (.583) all-time in the playoffs, having advanced to the semifinals twice and played for the 1989 championship.

AMONG THE FCS ALL-TIME BEST: Senior Jeremy Moses is among the all-time greatest quarterbacks in FCS history. He ranks 10th all-time at the FCS level in total offense (12,853), sixth all-time in passing yards (13,061), fourth all-time in touchdown passes (121) and second all-time in completions (1,151).

STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE: SFA is one of only four teams in the playoffs to have recorded a non-conference win (vs. Northern Iowa) over a conference champion, or non-conference team that qualified for the playoffs. The other three school are Georgia Southern, Villanova and New Hampshire.

THE COACHES: J.C. Harper became the 18th head coach of the SFA Lumberjack football team in December 2006, following two seasons as the team's defensive coordinator.  Harper was named the 2009 SLC Coach of the Year after guiding SFA to it's first conference crown in 10 years. The title came only two years following an 0-11 season. Harper is 23-24 (.489) in three seasons as a head coach. Villanova head coach Andy Talley is 185-106-1 (.635) in 26 seasons with the Wildcats. He is 214-124-2 (.636) in his 31st year as a head coach.
