'JACKS LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK AT NICHOLLS: The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team will look to rebound from a disappointing 27-24 setback to Texas State when they travel to Thibodaux, La., to face Nicholls (2-6/1-3 SLC). The 10th-ranked 'Jacks enter Saturday's contest with a 6-2 (.750) overall record, and are tied for tops in the Southland Conference with a 3-1 (.750) mark. The Colonels have lost two consecutive and three of their last four contests, and are coming off a 24-14 setback at McNeese State. The game is slated to kick off at 4 p.m. from Guidry Stadium. SFA vs. the COLONELS: The Lumberjacks own a 19-7 (.731) all-time record against Nicholls. SFA has recorded consecutive victories in the series, and has won four of the last five meetings. The lone loss during that stretch was a one-point setback to a nationally ranked Colonel team during the 2007 season. The 'Jacks are 8-4 (.667) all-time against the Colonels in Thibodaux, La.
STREAKS SNAPPED: The Lumberjacks three-point setback on homecoming ended two separate streaks. The loss ended a six-game win streak, and was the team's first loss at home in its last 10 games.
HEARTBREAKING LOSS: The Lumberjacks loss to Texas State marked the first time SFA had held a 24-point second-half lead and lost the game since the 2008 season. That year SFA built a 34-6 advantage over No. 20 South Dakota State, and the Jackrabbits outscored SFA 44-14 in the final 20 minutes of the game for the win.
COSTLY TURNOVERS: The Lumberjacks turned the ball over only twice against Texas State but they were costly. The miscues, which came within a 4:08 timespan, led to Bobcat touchdowns.
CONFERENCE'S ALL-TIME LEADING PASSER: AMONG THE FCS ALL-TIME BEST: Senior quarterback Jeremy Moses is among the all-time greatest quarterbacks in FCS history. The 'Jacks' gunslinger is 13th all-time at the FCS level in total offense (11,723), ninth all-time in passing yards (12,021), seventh all-time in touchdown passes (110) and third all-time in completions (1,080 - completions list created from FCS all-time passing yard statistics).
THE COACHES: J.C. Harper became the 18th head coach of the SFA Lumberjack football team in December 2006, following two seasons as the team's defensive coordinator. Harper was named the 2009 SLC Coach of the Year after guiding SFA to it's first conference crown in 10 years. The title came only two years following an 0-11 season. Harper is 20-24 (.455) in three seasons as a head coach. Nicholls head coach Charlie Stubbs is 2-6 (.250) during his first season in Thibodaux. Senior quarterback Jeremy Moses has become the league's all-time leading passer during his senior season. In 2010 Moses has set new SLC career standards for completions, touchdown passes, pass yards and yards of total offense. He also became the first player in Southland Conference history to record 11,000 career passing yards, 11,000 yards of total offense and 1,000 completions.
