Ladyjacks Fall To Ninth

MILLSBORO, Del. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack bowling team went 2-3 in standard format play Saturday, falling from third to ninth on the second day of the Hawk Classic. The Ladyjacks are one of 20 teams in a field that features several nationally ranked programs.
Saturday, SFA opened with a 996-927 loss to Monmouth. Sierra Gibbons led the way with a 204 in that match, and Brianne Buckert rolled a 195.
In the second match, tournament-leading Maryland Eastern Shore took a 970-909 win over the Ladyjacks, despite three SFA athletes bowling better than 190. Nicole Parkhurst bowled a 200, and Ashli Rosenkranz and Gibbons rolled a 191 and 190, respectively.
The Ladyjacks suffered their third straight loss in Match 3, as Kutztown took a 974-933 win. Rosenkranz paced SFA with a 236, and Gibbons turned in another strong performance, rolling a 196.
SFA rallied to stop the three-match skid with a 901-832 win over nationally ranked Morgan State. Rosenkranz led the way again with her 216, and Parkhurst posted a score of 200.
The Ladyjacks finished strong with a 939-911 verdict over New Jersey City, another nationally ranked program. Buckhert bowled a team-best 244, and Parkhurst was close behind, rolling a 221.
Rosenkranz finished with the top average for the day at 197, and Parkhurst averaged 194.
The tournament, which is determined by total pin count, will wrap up Sunday with a seeded bracket featuring best-of-seven baker format matches.
