
Texas Tech Pulls Away In Second Half

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech outscored Stephen F. Austin, 30-10, in the paint in the second half to pull away for a 70-58 win in the United Spirit Arena Friday night. The defeat is SFA's first of the season, moving the Lumberjacks to 2-1. With the win, Texas Tech improves to 2-1 on the year.
Red Raider center Robert Lewandowski was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field to lead all players with 20 points. Forward Mike Singletary came off the bench to score 10 of his 11 points in the second period, mostly on drives to the basket.
Eddie Williams and Jordan Glynn each scored 12 points to lead SFA. Glynn pulled down nine rebounds to tie Singletary for game-high honors as the Lumberjacks outrebounded Texas Tech, 38-29.
SFA held a one-point lead at halftime (35-34) and led by as many as 10 in the first period, when the Lumberjacks pulled down nine offensive boards and outscored the Red Raiders, 13-3, in second-chance points.
But SFA saw its lead whittled down late in the first period, thanks to 10 turnovers before the half, and the Lumberjacks couldn't keep Texas Tech out of the lane after the break, as the Red Raiders led by as many as 14 down the stretch.
Texas Tech shot 63 percent in the second period after SFA held the Raiders to a 41-percent effort in the first half. At the other end of the floor, the Lumberjacks' shooting percentage slid to 33.3 after opening with a strong 48-percent effort in the first period.
The Red Raiders finished with a 46-24 overall advantage in the paint and outscored SFA, 16-7, in points off turnovers.
SFA center Jereal Scott scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds, matching Williams' rebounding total. Point guard Denzel Barnes added nine points and four assists, and Dion Prewster came off the bench for eight points. Darius Gardner, Antonio Bostic and Brandon Cutler scored two points each, and Zac Downing added a free throw.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action on Nov. 23, when they head to Monroe, La., to take on ULM. The game against the Warhawks is set for a 7 p.m. start.
