FRISCO, Texas - Junior middle blocker MC Bottles has been named to the all-Southland Conference second team as announced by the league officials on Wednesday, marking the third straight year that Bottles has earned an all-conference nod.
"I am happy for MC, she was without a doubt our most consistent performer this season and for her I am glad to see her get some individual recognition," head coach Debbie Humphreys said. "I know that we both would trade individual success for team success, but it still is nice at the end of the year to have the rest of the conference recognize the kind of year that she has had and recognize her for it."
Bottles led the Ladyjacks in both kills (3.01) and attack percentage (.271) this season, ranking in the league's top 10 in each category. She totaled better than 350 kills for the second straight year and will enter her senior season just 55 kills shy of reaching 1,000 for her career.
The Rowlett, Texas, native hit the 20-kill mark for the first two times in her career in 2010, doing so the first time with a 23-kill effort in SFA"s first victory of the year, a five-set win over Butler. Two matches later she slammed home 20 more in a win over ULM, beginning a string of five consecutive matches with at least 10 kills, and seven of eight matches overall.
In all, Bottles reached at least 10 kills in 21 of 29 matches for the season and she did it in efficient fashion as well, hitting at least .200 in 19 matches on the season.
She was also a defensive presence for SFA, taking part in 108 total blocks on the year and leading the Ladyjacks with a 0.92 per-set average. Her top match in that category came in the Wichita State Tournament when she rejected a career-best 10 shots in SFA's first of two matches against Portland. In all, she had at least five blocks on 10 occasions for the season, registering at least one rejection in all but one of SFA's matches.
