NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to blow past Lamar, 3-2 (18-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-11) in the season finale of the 2010 season.
It was a fitting way for SFA's (12-19, 5-11) trio of seniors to close out their careers, coming from behind to defeat the only league team that was able to defeat them in their freshman campaign of 2007.
Senior Kelsey Owens led all players with a dozen kills and a dozen digs to end her career with a double-double, while Arielle Daron finished with seven kills and five blocks and Laurel Kuepker tallied seven digs and dished out four assists.
Neither the Ladyjacks, nor the Cardinals (12-15, 8-8) were able to put together much offense with SFA hitting just .132 on the night and LU just .055 as there were a combined 25 blocks in the match.
MC Bottles was the only other Ladyjack in double figures with 10 kills and five blocks, while Jayme Bazile was the star for the Cards with nine kills and 11 blocks - eight of which came in the first set alone.
SFA hit .259 in the final three sets compared to just .012 for Lamar.
Bazile was the offensive and defensive catalyst for the Cards in the first set, landing a pair of kills and rejecting eight shots as LU jumped out with an early 1-0 lead before making it 2-0 with a three point win in the second set, despite hitting just .088.
But SFA came out as a different team after the break, landing a dozen kills and hitting .235 in keeping the match alive with a six-point win. The fourth set was led by Owens who had four kills and helped SFA swing .316 and force a deciding fifth set by forcing 11 Cardinal attack errors.
The final set was all SFA jumped out in front 6-0 and never trailed, landing 10 kills and sending back a pair of Cardinal shots to take the win and snap the team's six-match losing streak.
The Ladyjacks will return 12 players off this year's team, losing only seniors Daron, Owens and Kuepker.
