SFA has two road matches remaining on the slate, with both coming next weekend when it heads to South Texas. The Ladyjacks will be looking to avenge home losses to both Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTSA next week before closing out the regular season at home with East Division foes McNeese State and Lamar.
THIS WEEK: The Ladyjacks have already gone through the UTA/Texas State gauntlet once this year and pulled off a split on the road two weeks ago with a win at UT-Arlington and a a loss at Texas State. SFA is on opposite ends of the spectrum in either series, having won the last 10 against UT-Arlington and having dropped each of the last five matches to Texas State. Two weeks ago at Texas Hall the Ladyjacks took a 3-1 win, but it was the first time since 2004 that UTA had even stolen a set from SFA after nine consecutive SFA sweeps.
CHASING 1,000: Senior Kelsey Owens is nearing 1,000 kills for her career after picking up 18 kills in matches against Sam Houston State and at Nicholls last week. Twenty-five matches into the 2010 season, Owens sits at 922 kills for her career, while Hanlan is not only racing toward the 1,000-mark for her career, and needs to average 13 kills per match over the last six matches of the regular season to reach the 1,000-kill plateau before the start of the Southland Conference Tournament.
MIKSCH LIBERO: With libero Madison Hanlan going down with an injury in Saturday's match at Nicholls, the Ladyjacks will likey turn to juinor Melissa Miksch to fill the libero jersey. She responded with a 16-dig performance in that match at Nicholls and has 12 games from the back line in which she has picked up at least 10 digs. It will be the first match Hanlan has missed since arriving in Nacogdoches, making Miksch the first Ladyjack other than Hanlan to wear the libero jersey since 2008, a span of 62 matches.
TRICK-ARI-TREAT: After missing all of non-conference play, senior Arielle Daron does not want the calendar to turn to November after putting together a very solid month of October. Daron hit a season high in consecutive matches last week with 17 kills apiece against Sam Houston State and Nicholls and now has hit double figures in kills in her last four matches, and six of her last seven dating back to October 2. As she approaches Halloween, the Houston senior has averaged a team-best 3.07 kills per set with a solid .228 attack percentage in seven matches in October.
TAKE THE GUN, LEAVE THE PANNONE: Freshman Monica Pannone is starting to fit into the Ladyjack rotation, and the numbers are showing it. Before the last five matches Pannone had not had a match with more than one kill since Sept. 4 against Portland, but in her last five contests she has averaged 2.20 kills and 3.33 digs per set. She set a new season high with nine kills at Nicholls and finished with her best statistical match of the season at Texas State when she added a career-best 19 digs to her eight scores.
