SAN MARCOS, Texas - Freshman Monica Pannone had eight kills and a season-high 19 digs, but Texas State had too much offense and pulled out a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18) win over SFA on Saturday at Strahan Coliseum.
Arielle Daron was the only Ladyjack (10-13, 3-5) who managed double-figure kills with 10, with five others landing at least six kills. Conversely, three Bobcats (13-9, 6-2) had at least a dozen scores, led by AJ Watlington's 19.
SFA had won its last two matches after a 3-1 win at UT-Arlington on Thursday, but Texas State hit .286 for the day as a team behind 23 assists apiece from setters Shelbi Irvin and Caleigh McCorquodale. Allison Gideon finished with a match-high 32 assists, along with nine kills on 18 tries. Daron added three service aces to her 10 kills, while Madison Hanlan had 12 digs and MC Bottles had seven kills and three blocks.
SFA had no less than six attack errors in any of its first three sets, but pulled out a two-point win in the second set with scores from Gideon, Hanlan and Sabrina Burns helping in the last push to knot the match.
But that was as close as it got as the Bobcats hit .333 in the final two sets compared to just .159 for the Ladyjacks.
SFA will get a chance to even its season series with another SLC West foe on Wednesday at Johnson Coliseum when it hosts Sam Houston State in the team's annual Dig Pink night, promoting breast cancer awareness. The Ladyjacks will then close out the week with a trip to Thibodaux, La., to take on Nicholls.
