Stephen F. Austin Game Notes
Central Arkansas Game Notes
Coming off their thrilling 32-27 victory at McNeese State last week, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks return to action Saturday when they host Central Arkansas (3-2/0-1 SLC). The fifth-ranked 'Jacks enter the contest riding a four-game win streak after their conference-opening win in Lake Charles. The Bears have dropped two consecutive and are coming off a 24-19 setback against Northwestern State. Saturday's game is slated to kick off at 2 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
SFA vs. the BEARS: The Lumberjacks trail the all-time series against Central Arkansas, 3-1 (.750). The two schools have met on the football field every season for the past four years, with the Bears winning the first three contests. But, SFA put an end to the slide with a three-point victory over the nationally ranked Bears last season in Conway.
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED: The Bears previous two trips to Homer Bryce Stadium have been eventful, regardless of what has happened on the field. The 2006 meeting saw a one-hour delay due to lightning in the area, and the 2008 game was delayed due to a power outage in the stadium.
WIN STREAK: The Lumberjacks have won four consecutive games on the season.
HOME WIN STREAK: The Lumberjacks will place their eight-game home win streak on the line when the Bears come to town. It is the team's longest home streak since it won eight-straight between the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
RECAPPING THE COWBOYS: The Lumberjacks' come-from-behind victory at McNeese State was the program's first victory in Lake Charles, La., since the 2001 season. It marked the first time SFA has recorded consecutive wins in the series since the 1996 and 1997 seasons.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS: The conference's all-time leader in completions and passing yards, Jeremy Moses needs only one more touchdown pass (100), and 335 yards of total offense (10,658) to set new league records.
AMONG THE FCS ALL-TIME BEST: Senior quarterback Jeremy Moses is among the all-time greatest quarterbacks in FCS history. The 'Jacks' gunslinger is 21st all-time at the FCS level in total offense (10,658), 14th all-time in passing yards (10,935), tied for 10th all-time in touchdown passes (100) and sixth all-time in completions (984 - completions list created from FCS all-time passing yard statistics).
THE COACHES: J.C. Harper became the 18th head coach of the SFA Lumberjack football team in December 2006, following two seasons as the team's defensive coordinator. Harper was named the 2009 SLC Coach of the Year after guiding SFA to it's first conference crown in 10 years. The title came only two years following an 0-11 season. Harper is 18-23 (.439) in three seasons as a head coach. UCA head coach Clint Conque is 76-45 (.628) in his 11th season at Central Arkansas. In 2008, Conque guided the Bears to a 10-2 record and the SLC's best record (UCA was not eligible for the league crown that season).
