UP NEXT
Another difficult week for the Ladyjacks waits in the wings next week when SFA takes on Sam Houston State once again, this time in Nacogdoches where SFA will be looking to avenge last week's 3-2 loss to the Bearkats.
Just four days later the Ladyjacks will head to the bayou to take on surprising Nicholls State in Thibodaux.
CHASING 1,000: Senior Kelsey Owens and sophomore Madison Hanlan are each nearing 1,000 for their careers in their primary stat, respecitively. Owens picked up 14 kills at Sam Houston on Wednesday before missing Saturday's match with an illness, while Hanlan added 41 digs to her total in two matches. Twenty-one matches into the 2010 season, Owens sits at 886 kills for her career, while Hanlan is not only racing toward the 1,000-mark for her career, but could make it into the school's all-time top 10 in that category by the end of the season. As for Owens, the senior needs to average 11.4 kills per match over the last 10 matches of the regular season to reach the 1,000-kill plateau before the start of the Southland Conference Tournament. Hanlan, on the other hand, has 959 career digs and needs 41 more to get to 1,000, but needs 182 digs to reach the school's all-time top 10. Oddly enough, that mark will likely be pushed farther away as it is senior Laurel Kuepker that currently sits 10th all-time at SFA with 1,141 career digs.
TAKE THE GUN, LEAVE THE PANNONE: With senior Kelsey Owens out of the lineup on Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana, the Ladyjacks were forced to turn to a pair of freshmen to fill the void and got a good response from Monica Pannone and Leslie Jackson. The duo combined for 14 kills, including eight from Pannone which tied a season high that she set in the first match of the season against Baylor.
CAT SCRATCH FEVER: In every sport rivals are found, and in the Southland Conference there may not be bigger one than that between SFA and Texas State; however, in recent seasons it has been the Bobcats that have had SFA's number, winning the last four matches in the series. The Ladyjacks will be looking to put a stop to that streak on Saturday in San Marcos, a place SFA has won in four of its last five trips to Strahan Coliseum.
KUEPKER INTO THE TOP 10: Senior Laurel Kuepker moved into the top 10 at SFA in digs on Thursday, picking up seven digs to pass Julie Goodson for 10th all-time at SFA in that category. With 64 more this season she would tie for eighth at the school, with seventh place still a distant 215 digs beyond that.
