NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack tennis team picked up their second win in as many weeks over UT-Pan American, 5-2, on Sunday in the team's home opener for the spring season. The match was originally scheduled for Friday, but was forced back to Sunday due to inclement weather in the Nacogdoches area.
SFA (2-1) picked up a win over the Broncos last week in Dallas and followed it up with the same result in Nacogdoches on Sunday. The Ladyjacks took both doubles matches with Roxana Enica and Alina Shazkho knocking off Megan Bedeau and Luisa Cantu in the top match by an 8-4 count, and Paola Muntuenga and Alice Pacaut getting by Nina Ciric and Sarah Burton by the same margin.
In singles play SFA managed to secure four of the six points with Enica taking a No. 1 singles win over Bedeau (2-6, 7-6, 6-1) and Shazkho earning a No. 2 win over Cantu (7-6, 6-1) to get SFA a comfortable 3-0 lead early on.
Tatiana Smolnikova provided the clinching point with a win over Burton (7-6, 6-7, 10-2) in No. 4 singles and Pacaut picked up another SFA point with a default win in No. 6 singles.
The Ladyjacks get another shot at a win on Tuesday at home when they host Abilene Christian with the match scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
