NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin equipment staff worked the East/West Shrine Game last week in Orlando, Fla. The game, which has been played the past two seasons in Houston, Texas, pits the top collegiate seniors from the East against all-stars from the West.
"I think one of the best experiences from the game is being around people who have truly excelled at each level of the game," said SFA Director of Equipment and Facilities Greg Payne. "We are working with the top seniors from around the nation, and the coaches all have a history of success in the NFL."
While the SFA staff worked directly with the West during the game, all five equipment managers worked the practices for both teams during the nine days in Orlando. The equipment managers for the East represented the U.S. Military Academy.
The West team was comprised of 53 players representing 47 universities. All told, 106 of the nation's top seniors were in Orlando last week, representing nearly 95 universities.
The only down side for the SFA equipment staff was the final outcome. The West all-stars recorded their second consecutive setback.
