FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin freshman kicker Evan Engwall has been named Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week announced league officials Monday afternoon.
The Derby, Kansas, native led the Lumberjacks with 11 points in SFA's near upset of NCAA Division I FBS opponent SMU. Engwall was 3-of-4 on field goal attempts, and a perfect 2-of-2 on PATs Saturday. Engwall drilled field goals from 46, 38 and 48 yards out. The 48-yard field goal was not only a career long, but is also the longest field goal by any Lumberjack since the 2004 season (Ryan Rossner). Engwall's 48-yarder marked the 27th time in school history that a Lumberjack has connected from at least 48 yards away.
The Lumberjacks will look to get back to .500 this weekend as they host Texas College. The game against the Steers is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
