SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Ladyjack volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, wrapping up the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational by falling to UC-Davis 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-13) and Missouri State (19-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-16).
The early loss to UC-Davis (5-2) snapped a three-match winning streak for SFA (5-4) before the Ladyjacks fell again in the final match of the tournament to the Bears (5-2), an NCAA Tournament qualifier a year ago.
Ashley Bailey was named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the event, finishing with nine and 11 kills, respectively, in the day's final matches.
Against the Aggies the Ladyjacks never could get going, swinging .062 to a .375 mark for UC-Davis. Mary Caitlin Bottles led the way offensively with 10 kills, but SFA could only manage a .138 attack percentage in the first set as its highest individual set of the afternoon.
Conversely, against the Bears SFA got off to a good start and took the first set by holding Missouri State to just .108 hitting. But the roles reversed the rest of the way as the host hit .258 in the final three sets to just .078 for SFA. Bottles and Bailey led the offense with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while Paloma Buckner added a double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs. Madison Hanlan had her best statistical match with 21 digs and a pair of aces.
SFA gets a five-day respite before traveling to Tulsa, Okla., for the Tulsa Invitational beginning Friday.
