
SFA Clobbers Alcorn In Tourney Opener

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA volleyball team only needed 52 minutes to open up the Ladyjack Invitational Friday afternoon with a convincing 3-0 (25-10, 25-5, 25-6) over Alcorn State at Johnson Coliseum.
SFA (8-5) held the Lady Braves (0-9) to -.098 hitting for the match while swinging at a .500 clip itself in the three-set affair. As a team the Ladyjacks only misfired six times in 70 tries and even added eight service aces, including three from sophomore Melissa Miksch.
Miksch also added 10 digs and four kills with no errors but had plenty of help as eight Ladyjacks cracked the kill column with at least one score. Ashley Bailey led the way with eight kills only nine tries adn even added a pair of blocks. Mary Caitlin Bottles and Sabrina Burns each had seven kills apiece, while Arielle Daron added six and Emily Franklin five.
Paloma Buckner dished out 32 assists and freshman Madison Hanlan was one of two players in double-digits in digs with 10.
For the match SFA was able to side out on 20 of 22 opportunities, including a perfect 6 for 6 in the second set.
The Ladyjacks have their second match of the day at 7:00 p.m. against Houston, who already had defeated the Lady Braves 3-0 in the first match of the day.
