NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team will look to make it two in a row, as it travels to Macomb, Ill., Saturday to face Western Illinois. The 'Jacks, who are coming off a 92-0 thrashing of Texas College, will look to move over .500 on the season. The game against the Leathernecks is slated to begin at 6:05 p.m. from Hanson Field.
The Lumberjacks are 1-2 (.333) all-time against Western Illinois. SFA won the first meeting between the two schools, 63-36, in Nacogdoches back in 2005. WIU made a return trip to the Piney Woods in 2007 to record a 34-13 victory over SFA. The Leathernecks followed that up with a 34-14 win over SFA last season in Macomb.
The Lumberjacks dropped a 34-14 decision last season in Macomb. WIU scored a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the first half to take a 34-14 lead into the locker room. Junior quarterback Jeremy Moses was a perfect 12-of-12 and tied a career-high with his six touchdown passes against Texas College. He now has 55 for his career, becoming only the third player in school history throw for at least 50 touchdowns in a career (Todd Hammel - 65, Todd Whitten - 60).
After not recording a shutout since the 1995 season (27-0 over #6 Youngstown State), SFA has now pitched a shutout in each of the past two years.
