TULSA, Okla. - The Ladyjack volleyball team closed out the Tulsa Invitational on Saturday evening with a 3-1 (25-18, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21) win over Gonzaga behind a 15-kill performance from Ashley Bailey.
Again it was the middle blockers for SFA doing the majority of the damage offensively with Bailey having a match-high total and Mary Caitlin Bottles adding 10 kills and seven blocks. Melissa Miksch just missed out on her second straight double-double with nine kills but 20 digs, while Madison Hanlan added 24 digs from her libero spot. Paloma Buckner did pick up a double-double with 37 assists and 11 digs.
Bailey picked up five of her kills in the first as the Ladyjacks defense again held firm, holding the Bulldogs to just .025 hitting. Bottles then got five kills to lead the charge in the second set, giving the Ladyjacks a commanding 2-0 lead.
But the Bulldogs responded with a dominating win in the third set as SFA committed just as many errors as they did kills with no player landing more than a pair of kills in the frame. However, the final frame saw Bailey set the pace again with six kills and a block while Arielle Daron was not far behind with five of her nine kills for the match as SFA clinched the win.
The Ladyjacks get five days off before hosting the Ladyjack Invitational beginning Friday, Sept. 18 at Johnson Coliseum against Alcorn State.
