Ladyjacks Sweep Flames To Open Year

DeKalb, Ill. - The Ladyjack volleyball team opened up the 2009 season with a win on Friday, sweeping Illinois-Chicago, 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-16) in the first of four games at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational hosted by Northern Illinois University.
SFA (1-0) continues the tournament at 2:00 p.m. CT against Southern Illinois before concluding the weekend with matches against Western Illinois and Northern Illinois on Saturday. Each of the games can be followed via Gametracker at www.niuhuskies.com.
Ashley Bailey led the offense with nine kills on 16 tries with no errors, while MC Bottles six blocks led an SFA defense that rejected eight Flames (0-1) shots and held UIC to a .101 hitting percentage on the day.
Paloma Buckner dished out 25 assists in three sets and Kelsey Owens, Amber Williams-Roberts and Laurel Kuepker each kept alive 10 digs. SFA had their serves working well also, landing nine aces with Kuepker and freshman Madison Hanlan each dropping in four apiece.
