NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team is making its final adjustments in preparation for the second scrimmage of fall camp. The Lumberjacks take to the field Saturday for a 7 p.m. scrimmage at Homer Bryce Stadium. The scrimmage will pit the No. 1 offense vs. the No. 2 defense, and will last two quarters.
The Lumberjacks return a lot of firepower on both sides of the ball, including two of the top defensive players in the country in Tim Knicky and Jabara Williams. Both athletes have been named to several preseason All-America lists, while Williams is one of 20 players named to the Buck Buchanan Preseason Watch List. The Buchanan Award is given annually to the NCAA Division I FCS top defensive player.
Not to be outdone by the defense, the Lumberjack offense also has several players that have received numerous preseason honors. Senior receivers Duane Brooks and Contrevious Parks enter the year as preseason first-team All-SLC selections, while Brooks and junior quarterback Jeremy Moses are preseason honorable mention All-America selections according to Consensus Draft Services.
In the team's first scrimmage the Lumberjack first-team defense got the upper hand, surrendering seven points and only two first downs. Moses was held to a 15-of-31 performance for 121 yards, sophomore Dalton Williams and freshman Brady Attaway combined to complete 41-of-64 (.641) passes for 451 yards and three touchdowns against the second and third-team defense.
