NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team closed out the first week of practice Thursday with a 7 p.m. practice at Homer Bryce Stadium. The 'Jacks will begin the second week of camp with their first of two scheduled scrimmages Saturday evening.
"This has been a very challenging week for our players," said SFA head coach J.C. Harper. "The first week of camp, coincided with the final week of summer school. The guys finished classes today with final exams, but all of that along with lifting weights has made for a tough grind. I have been very pleased with the leadership of our 13 seniors during this difficult week."
The scrimmage will consist of roughly 80 plays for the first and second teams. Several starting sports are still up for grabs, and Saturday's workout could go along way in solidifying those spots.
Fans can follow along with the scrimmage with a live interactive chat on the SFA football blog with Ben Rikard keeping fans up to date with the action. The football blog is located on the right sidebar of the football page and is free to sign in or follow.
The Lumberjacks will also have one scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 22, which will be the team's final exhibition prior to the season opener at SMU. The game against the Mustangs is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Gerald Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
