Ladyjacks To Host SMU In Scrimmage

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will open the 2009 season Tuesday with a home exhibition game against SMU. The contest against the Mustangs is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will feature three, 30-minute periods.
SFA is coming off a 9-7-2 record in 2008. The Ladyjacks bring back 12 letterwinners, six of whom are returning starters, for the 2009 season. Included in the fold is 2008 Honorable Mention All-Southland Conference selection Megan Cash. Tuesday's game will present the first opportunity to see SFA's 18 newcomers.
SMU posted a 6-13-1 mark last season. The Mustangs went 4-7-0 and finished ninth in Conference USA.
The Ladyjacks have never taken on SMU in a regular-season contest. SFA's last meeting with the Mustangs was the 2006 exhibition opener. SFA head coach George Van Linder piloted the SMU program from 1999-2002, compiling a 59-20-7 record with three appearances in the NCAA Championships.
Following Tuesday's contest, SFA will wrap up the exhibition slate with a home contest against Houston Baptist on Saturday. That game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
