NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced Monday the addition of Orren Tims to the 2009 Lumberjack recruiting class. Tims, the sixth player signed in this year's class, is a forward from McLennan Community College.
"Orren will be a serious contender to start for us as a forward next year," Kaspar said. "He is a versatile offensive player who can shoot from the outside and post up down on the block. Orren is a very hard worker and doesn't mind mixing it up under the basket. We are fortunate to have him join us."
Tims is a 6-5, 210-pound forward from Ruston, La. This season at McLennan, he was a second-team selection to the All-North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference squad. Tims earned All-Region V Honorable Mention after helping lead McLennan to a 25-6 record and a national ranking as high as No. 18. He averaged 13.1 points per game, which was third on the team, and his 6.8 rebounds per contest ranked second.
After starring at Ruston High School, Tims played his first collegiate season in his hometown at Louisiana Tech. Tims appeared in all 28 games for the Techsters that year, averaging 5.3 points and three rebounds per contest.
As a prep player, he averaged 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists for his career. Tims was a three-time selection to the first-team all-district squad. He was also an all-parish selection and earned a nod on the second-team all-state list. During his career, he received a Shreveport Times Most Valuable Player award.
Other schools to recruit Tims included Southland Conference members Northwestern State, Texas State and Central Arkansas, as well as Grambling State.
Tims joins prep recruits Cory Garrett (Center, Texas) and Will Reinke (Lawton, Okla.), along with collegiate transfers Jordan Glynn (Waco, Texas, by way of McLennan Community College), Mark Gomillia (Atlanta, Ga., by way of Neosho County Community College), and Lionell Holmes (Oswego, Ill., by way of Antelope Valley College) in the 2009 signing class.
Including Glynn and current Lumberjacks Eric Bell and Walt Harris, Tims will give SFA four former McLennan players on the roster next season.
