NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team added Jacksonville (TX) College transfer Chelsea Foy to its roster SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley announced Wednesday afternoon. Foy, a 5-11 shooting guard/small forward from Jacksonville College, will add another outside threat to the Ladyjack lineup.
"After two great seasons at Jacksonville College, we are pleased to have Chelsea join our Ladyjack program," said Riley. "She has been recognized as one of the top players in the Texas Eastern Conference, which is one of the top junior college leagues in the country. A very good shooter, she will be a great compliment to our team. We wanted to add a tough, hard-nosed player who could really shoot the three and Chelsea definitely has those characteristics."
An NJCAA Region 14 All-Conference and all-region selection this past season, Foy has started 63-of-64 games during her two-year career in Jacksonville. A model of consistency from beyond the arc, Foy shot at least 35 percent from beyond the arc each of her two seasons with the Jaguars. She finished her juco career knocking down 120-of-334 (35.9 percent) three-point attempts.
Foy averaged 9.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game as a freshman, and after a year of experience under her belt, watched her numbers rise the following season. She finished her junior college career averaging 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore. Foy had an impact in all phases of the game dishing out 4.3 assists per game, and recording 2.0 steals per contest this past season.
"Chelsea is the ultimate competitor," said Jacksonville College head coach Lynn Nabi. "She hates to lose and will do what it takes to win. She has tremendous pride in doing the little things that help you win. Not only is she a good shooter but she is a good passer and she understands how to get her teammates involved in the offense."
Foy comes to Nacogdoches with some pretty lofty credentials. One of the top players in Jacksonville College's history, Foy leaves as the schools all-time leader three-point field goals, assists and is the school's second all-time leading scorer. She also became the first women's basketball player to earn NJCAA Region 14 All-Conference, all-region and all-tournament team honors.
"The qualities that make up Chelsea are what all coaches want in players," said Nabi. "She is coachable, tough, determined and fun to be around. SFA got a steal in Chelsea Foy. I will miss her a great deal and I know she will make the Ladyjacks successful. I am excited that she is in a great program at a great university."
"I chose SFA because it is a beautiful campus and I really like the team," said Foy. "I think it is a great fit for me and I see potential to grow as a person and a player here."
A high school standout at Victoria High School, Foy earned first-team all-district and all-area honors as a senior. She capped off her career by being named TABC First-Team All-Region in her final season.
