PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team remains 15th after its thrilling 31-27 victory over Nicholls State Saturday. The 'Jacks also climbed to 17th in the FCS Coaches' Poll. The victory improved SFA to 7-2 on the season, and kept the Lumberjacks in a four-way tie for first place in the Southland Conference standings.
The Lumberjacks, who have now been ranked for four consecutive weeks, locked up their first undefeated home slate since the 1999 season when SFA recorded an 8-3 overall mark and won a share of the SLC title. The 1999 campaign also marked the school's last conference championship.
The victory marked SFA's first come-from-behind victory of the season, and keeps them in the hunt for 2009 conference crown. It also assures SFA of its best record since the 2003 season.
The Lumberjacks will put their 7-2 record on the line Saturday when they travel to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern Louisiana. The game against the Lions is slated to begin at 2 p.m. from Strawberry Stadium.
