BEAUMONT, Texas - The Ladyjacks hit ..306 and used a late first-set rally to fuel a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) win over Lamar at McDonald Gym on Saturday afternoon.
SFA (17-10, 6-3 Southland) trailed 22-17 late in the first set before SFA scored nine of the last 10 points to steal a 25-23 win, eventually avenging a pair of five-set Lamar (11-10, 6-4 Southland) wins each of the past two seasons in Nacogdoches.
Kelsey Owens had her second consecutive double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs and five Ladyjacks had at least seven kills as SFA only committed 12 attack errors in the three-set affair.
Paloma Buckner dished out 36 assists and Madison Hanlan was one of three players in double-figure digs with 14, while Mary Caitlin Bottles added a team-best three blocks to her eight kills on 16 swings.
It was Ashley Bailey and Arielle Daron that did the damage in the first-set comeback with three kills apiece in the set, including three of SFA's final nine points in their final rally. SFA swung a ridiculous .387 for the set while Lamar only managed to swing .190.
Owens and Emily Franklin got into the act in the second set with three kills apiece as SFA went more of the traditional route and used a 5-1 run late in the set to squeak by and take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Then, in the third set the Ladyjacks took care of business quickly behind six kills from Owens and five from Bottles. SFA hit .355 in the set while Lamar only managed to hit a paltry .103, only managing to land seven kills.
SFA next hosts Texas State on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. before hosting UTA on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
