NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will look to move back above .500 Saturday as they entertain Southeastern Louisiana at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks (7-9/2-2 SLC) are coming off an 11-point setback against Texas-Arlington, which ended a modest two-game win streak. The Lady Lions enter Saturday's contest 10-7 (.588) overall and tied for second in the SLC East Division standings with SFA at 2-2 (.500). Tonight's game is slated for a 6 p.m. tip off.
SFA vs. the Lady Colonels: The Ladyjacks own a 20-2 (.909) all-time record against Southeastern Louisiana. SFA has won three straight in the series, including a 59-50 decision in the lone meeting between the two schools last year.
Speed Bump: After shooting 44 percent from the field, and averaging 84 points in their last two games, the Ladyjacks seemed to hit an offensive snag Wednesday evening against Texas-Arlington. The Ladyjacks went 26-of-72 (. 361) from the floor against the Lady Mavs, finishing the game with 65 points.
Built Ford Tough: After averaging less than six points per game throughout a majority of the non-conference season, sophomore Jordan Ford has turned things around. Ford has become one of the team's leading scorers since the start of conference play, averaging 12.0 points per game over the team's last four contests.
First Player Off the Bench: Senior Natashia Green once again provided a spark for SFA coming off the bench. The 5-7 Lancaster, Texas, native led SFA with 18 points on 6-of-14 (.429) shooting against Texas-Arlington.
Team Depth: Despite the setback, the Ladyjacks showed considerable depth against Texas-Arlington. SFA's reserves outscored the Lady Mavs' reserves, 28-0. Senior Natashia Green led the way with 18 points, while freshman Schera Sampson and sophomore Toni Davis each scored three points. Freshman Cambria Smith and sophomore Chantol Drennan each chipped in two. In similar fashion, the Ladyjack reserves also outrebounded the UTA bench, 13-0.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks return to action Wednesday, Jan. 28, when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to take on Northwestern State. The game against the Lady Demons is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
