NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After playing five of the last six games on the road, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the William R. Johnson Coliseum this week for two games. The two-game stand will equal the teams longest of the season, hosting Texas-Arlington and Southeastern Louisiana. The Ladyjacks (7-8/2-1 SLC) ended a four-game slide by posting back-to-back wins and they enter Wednesday's game against UTA looking for a season-best third consecutive victory. The Lady Mavs enter Wednesday's contest with an 8-8 (.500) overall record and a 2-1 SLC mark. The game against the Lady Mavs is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA will be back in action Saturday when it hosts Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions enter the week 10-6 (.625) overall, and are tied with SFA atop the SLC East standings with a 2-1 (.667) conference mark. The game against the Lady Lions is slated to get under way at 6 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Lady Mavs: The Ladyjacks are 41-14 (.745) all-time against Texas-Arlington, but the Lady Mavs have had the upper hand lately. Texas-Arlington has won five straight, and 10-of-the-last-11 meetings between the two schools. The Ladyjacks lone victory during that stretch was a 39-35 victory in Arlington during the 2005-06 season. The Ladyjacks dropped a 64-56 decision to UTA last year in Nacogdoches.
SFA vs. the Lady Lions: The Ladyjacks own a 20-2 (.909) all-time record against Southeastern Louisiana. SFA has won three straight in the series, including a 59-50 decision in the lone meeting between the two schools last year.
Tough Slate The Ladyjacks just completed one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. The slate consisted of games against three top-10 teams, including Baylor (9th), Texas A&M (4th) and Auburn (10th).
#300: The Ladyjacks 92-56 victory at Nicholls was another milestone for the Stephen F. Austin women's basketball program. The victory marked the program's 300 Southland Conference win.
Home Sweet Home: The Ladyjacks are one of the nation's all-time winningest teams at home, with a 366-95 (.794) all-time record. SFA has won 35 of its last 45 games in the Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are 4-1 (.800) in the William R. Johnson Coliseum this year.
Built Ford Tough: Sophomore Jordan Ford has scored in double-figures in each of the past three games. She is averaging 12.7 points per game during that stretch.
Being Offensive: The Ladyjacks recorded a season-best shooting percentage Wednesday evening against Central Arkansas. The Ladyjacks knocked down 28-of-55 (.509) field goals. It is the first time SFA has shot at least 50 percent from the floor, since the Ladyjacks went 32-of-62 (51.6 percent) against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi during the 2006-07 season.
Offensive Overdrive: Following their 76-point night against Central Arkansas, the Ladyjacks erupted for a season-high 92 points against Nicholls. It is the most points scored by a Ladyjack team sine SFA dropped 95 against Grambling State last season. The Ladyjacks are averaging 84 points per game in their last two contests.
Spreading the Wealth: SFA did a great job of spreading the wealth Saturday at Nicholls. Head coach Lee Ann Riley played her whole bench, and every Ladyjack, except for one, recorded at least two points in the game. Three players scored in double figures, and nine players scored at least seven points in the victory.
Windex Awards: The Ladyjacks dominated the glass against Nicholls, pulling down a season-high 55 rebounds. The Ladyjacks outrebounded Nicholls by 21 in the contest. It also marked the second time this season that SFA has pulled down at least 50 rebounds in a game.
Stifling Defense: The Ladyjacks' defensive pressure was too much for Nicholls. SFA forced the Lady Colonels into a season-high 33 turnovers, which the Ladyjacks converted into 38 points. The Ladyjacks have averaged 29.5 forced turnovers in the past two games.
Decreasha is Good-ner: Sophomore Decreasha Goodner recorded her best game of the season at Nicholls. Goodner scored a season-high 12 points, which is the second time this season she has recorded double-figures.
Productive Minutes: Freshman Schera Sampson played eight minutes against Nicholls, and scored eight points and pulled down six boards.
Up Next ...
