NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team (5-8, 0-1 SLC) returns to the court Wednesday looking to right the ship and get back on the winning track. The Ladyjacks have lost four consecutive games, and seven of their last eight entering Wednesday's matchup against Central Arkansas. Wednesday's game will be the Ladyjacks first game in Nacogdoches in more than a month, and will pit SFA against a Sugar Bears' team that is 4-10 overall, and 0-1 in league play. UCA is also looking for its first league-win of the season after losing its last two games and three of its past four. The game against the Sugar Bears is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Sugar Bears: The Ladyjacks are a perfect 2-0 all-time against Central Arkansas. SFA recorded an 82-65 victory over the Sugar Bears last season in Conway. The Ladyjacks notched a 10-point victory, 64-54, during the 2006-07 season, which is the only other time the Sugar Bears have traveled to Nacogdoches.
298 Down, Two To Go: Right on the heels of the program's 800th all-time win, SFA now has its sights set on 300 all-time Southland Conference victories. The Ladyjacks' win over Texas-San Antonio last season marked the program's 298th win over a Southland Conference opponent.
Riley vs. the SLC: Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley has compiled a dominant record against Southland Conference foes. Riley is 83-38 (.686) against SLC teams during the regular season.
Home Sweet Home: The Ladyjacks are one of the nation's all-time winningest teams at home, with a 365-95 (.793) all-time record. SFA has won 34 of its last 44 games in the Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are 3-1 (.750) in the William R. Johnson Coliseum this year.
SFA in SLC Home Openers: The Ladyjacks are 5-2 (.714) in Southland Conference home openers under head coach Lee Ann Riley. The Ladyjacks have won two of the last three conference home openers, but have split the last two.
Double-Double: Junior Whitney Cormier recorded first double-double of the season, and the third of her career with her 16-point, 13-rebound outing at Sam Houston State. It is the second time this season that a Ladyjack has recorded a double-double (Amina Sawyer).
Attacking the Glass: Junior Whitney Cormier tied a career-high with 13 rebounds at Sam Houston State. It is the most rebounds for a Ladyjack since Nikki Carr pulled down 13 against the Bearkats last season.
Offensive Boards: The Ladyjacks were very successful in the offensive rebounds category against Sam Houston State. SFA finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds, which was second-only to the season-high 23 offensive boards the Ladyjacks pulled down against Jacksonville State.
Built Ford Tough: Sophomore Jordan Ford is showing signs of busting out of her early-season slump. She scored 14 points against the Bearkats, which was only a point off her season-high. She has now scored in double figures twice in the team's last four games.
Need Assistance: Freshman point guard Cambria Smith set a new career high in assists Saturday at Sam Houston State. The Garland, Texas, native, dished out a team-high five assists in the 17 minutes of action.
Holding on to the Ball: The Ladyjacks did a good job of holding onto the basketball against Sam Houston State. The Ladyjacks turned the ball over a season-low 13 times in the contest.
Up Next ... SFA will travel to Thibodaux, La., Saturday, Jan. 17, to take on a Nicholls team that is still searching for its first win of the season. The Colonels (0-12/0-1 SLC) will be in San Antonio, Texas, to take on UTSA Wednesday before returning to Thibodaux to host the Ladyjacks. The game against the Colonels is slated to tipoff at 2 p.m. from Stopher Gymnasium.
