Game Information
This Week: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will look to get back in the win column this weekend with a pair of games on the docket. SFA begins the action Friday, when it takes on Louisiana Tech on the road. The Ladyjacks then come home to meet Arkansas State on Sunday. SFA comes into the week with a 1-2-0 record. Louisiana Tech is 1-1-0 and coming off a 2-0 win at Texas Woman's University. The Techsters were scheduled to play Delta State Wednesday afternoon, but the game was postponed. Arkansas State enters the week with a 2-0-0 record. The Red Wolves defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 7-0, in their last contest. Arkansas State will meet Centenary on the road Friday before taking on SFA.
Last Week: SFA controlled the tempo and dominated in its home opener against Centenary last Friday. The final count was 1-0 in the Ladyjacks' favor, but SFA outshot the Ladies, 27-6, and held a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore transfer Kim Kimmel recorded the decisive goal in the 76th minute with junior Brenna Crockett picking up the assist. In Sunday's game, SFA created scoring opportunities for itself both early in the game and in the waning minutes, but couldn't match Houston's first-half goal. The Cougars scored on a free kick from near midfield that bounced just over the reach of sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Bauder.
SFA vs. the Lady Techsters: The Ladyjacks own a 2-1-0 advantage in their short series with the young Louisiana Tech soccer program. The teams have met each of the last three years, beginning with a 2-0 SFA win in Nacogdoches in 2005. The Techsters took a 2-1 victory in Ruston, La., the following season, but the Ladyjacks captured a solid 7-2 home win last season. Amazingly, seven different SFA players scored goals in the game.
SFA vs. the Red Wolves: The Ladyjacks are 3-0-0 all-time against Ar-kansas State. All three games have been closely contested, with SFA's 2-0 verdict in 2004 -- the only Ladyjack home game in the series, thus far -- being the widest margin. The teams last met in 2005 with the Ladyjacks taking a 2-1 win.
The Coaches: SFA is coached by George Van Linder. In his first year at SFA, Van Linder has compiled a 1-2-0 record. He is 125-101-20 in 12 years as a collegiate head coach. Kevin Sherry is in his second season at Louisiana Tech. Arkansas State head coach Derek Pittman is in his second season with the program.
Next Week: SFA will play just once, hosting Southeastern Conference foe Arkansas on Sunday in a 1 p.m. match.
